PRP Hair Restoration

What is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)?
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a non-surgical medical procedure that uses your blood for growth, regeneration and healing. This treatment is more than just for addressing hair loss. It supports healing, regeneration, and growth. PRP also treats muscles, ligaments and injured tendons.
Research highlights PRP’s potential in addressing hair loss in various ways.
- A 2022 review found PRP may encourage hair growth, increase thickness, and protect follicles from premature shedding.
- A 2020 review of 13 studies suggested PRP could boost hair density and thickness.
- A 2018 review pointed out that PRP may enhance blood flow to hair follicles, aiding growth.

The PRP Process
The therapy is a “3-Step” process, which includes drawing blood, processing it and injecting it into the targeted areas. Plasma, the liquid extracted from blood, contains red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. It helps with clotting, and its proteins and cytokines aid in rejuvenation, healing and growth.
The aesthetician draws in the platelet-rich plasma using a syringe, which is injected into the treatment areas.
Step 3
It takes 10 minutes for the components to separate, becoming visible in three layers in the glass vial:
- 1st Layer: Platelet-Poor Plasma
- 2nd Layer: Platelet-Rich Plasma
- 3rd Layer: Red Blood Cells
Step 2
Around 60 mL of blood is drawn through a microneedle. It is then placed in a centrifuge, separating the components by density.

The Powerful Proof of PRP
The following researches shine light on how PRP addresses hair loss in different ways:
According to a 2022 Review – Platelet Rich Plasma and Its Use in Hair Regrowth, published in the Journal of Drug Design, Development and Therapy, PRP is a great therapeutic option for female pattern hair loss and androgenetic alopecia. It has the power to encourage hair growth and increase its thickness, as well as protect follicles from premature shedding.
According to a 2020 Systematic Review of 13 Studies – Autologous Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy for Pattern Hair Loss, published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, platelet-rich plasma can increase hair density.
According to a 2018 Review – Platelet-Rich Plasma for Androgenetic Alopecia, published in the International Journal of Women’s Dermatology, PRP can enhance blood flow to hair follicles, aiding growth. However, more research needs to be done regarding the dosage.

PRP Hair Treament Before and After

Combining Treatments with PRP
We suggest including Biotin Vitamins and other hair growth serums that specifically target hair loss in your treatment for better outcomes. These have an instant impact on hair thickness and growth. Kindly inquire with your aesthetician about these add-ons to determine your suitability.

PRP Side Effects
The risk of contracting a communicable disease from PRP is non-existent. However, according to a 2022 Review, you might experience a few side effects, including:
- Itching
- Swelling
- Headaches
- Pain During Treatment
- Temporary Discolouration
It’s essential to consult a healthcare provider to discuss potential side effects.

Risks of PRP
It’s essential to follow the “Post-Care Guidelines” your aesthetician provides. Failure to do so might elevate certain risk factors, including:
- Fever
- Anemia
- Smoking
- Specific Cancers (Bone Cancer)
- Recently Taken Steroid Injections (Within 4 Weeks)
- Health Issues (Platelet Dysfunction, Sepsis, or Low Platelet Count)
- Taking Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) (Within 48 Hours of the Treatment)
Before starting treatment, disclose all supplements and medications you are taking to your aesthetician. This will allow them to design a treatment plan accordingly and anticipate any possible adverse reactions.
